Who would guess that the best breakfast in Mount Dandenong area is served by a cafe in leafy suburb Ferntree Gully? Forget the cafes up in the mountains, Lorna is the place for breakfast, favourites among the locals. Driving up Burwood Highway towards Upper Ferntree Gully, Lorna is located opposite to Ferntree Gully Woolworths in a small shopping strip.
The modern cafe is decorated with live plants and white tables which gives the welcoming vibes. Friendly staff is always with a smile and ready to help you all the time. The place get full really quickly, but they will happily find you a place in communal table next to the dessert fridge ( beware – the view from this seat is mouth-watering).
They offer great coffee, but brewed chi latte is the best I have tasted for a long time. Frothy milk come filled with tea and various spices where you get your own cup and strainer to make it as your liking. Also it comes with side of honey which you can add as you go.
The menu changes according to seasons and you can choose from all day breakfast or lunch menu.
We ordered pork belly with poached eggs perfectly done, chilli seasoned potatoes, asparagus, tomato and tomatillo verde. Which tasted heavenly.
Next dish we ordered was coconut panne cotta with seasonal fruit, lemon curd and pepita maple clusters. The dish looked breathtakingly pretty and the pane cotta was wobbly as it was supposed to be. Fruits included plum, kiwi, cherries, pomegranate, blood orange etc. A mouth full of all the components were a flavour blast where you want to go for more.
Apart from all those fancy dishes in the menu, their dessert cabinets are full of goodies, which anyone can’t go pass. Few of my favourites are protégées tart, Lindt brownie and salted caramel cookie.
