Mornington Peninsula (During colder months)

About an hour’s drive from the city, located in South East of Melbourne is Mornington peninsula, a place to find sandy beaches, wineries, orchards and many more adventures.

One can say there is nothing interesting in this coastal area during colder months of the year, but trust me, Mornington peninsula is one of the best getaways during cold wintery months.

We start our journey with perfect breakfast from ‘High Tea in Paris’ which is located in heart of Mornington. They offer high tea and hot spring packages where you get a high tea which is followed by bathing at Mornington Hot Springs.

After having the impeccable high tea type breakfast, we collect our vouchers and head towards the hot springs. The scenic route is breathtaking and couldn’t make our mind to drive without stopping in couple of places to enjoy the view.

Mornington Hot springs make the cold day very romantic, with number of bathing experience to select from. There are different pools with different temperatures and it’s tempting to stay there for hours and hours just relaxing.

After the pampering, we decide to explore the Redhill area well known for fresh produce. A foodie can wander around this area for days exploring the wineries, farms, orchards and restaurants.

Then we walk around couple of my personal favourites, Green Olive at Redhill and Montalto vineyard & olive grove. Both of this places renowned for their fresh produce and have restaurants which showcase local seasonal produce at their best.

Trying different wine, olive and having late lunch we decide to drive around the area where there are strawberry farms, farm gates and small boutique shops that sell fresh produce. Right at the perfect time we stop at the Arthurs Seat to watch the magnificent sunset over the breathtaking Port Phillip bay.

  1. The Peninsula is at its very best and busiest during the summer months but don’t disregard the winter months altogether either. Walking the beaches that line Bass Straight in the cold grey months of winter, and being witness to the drama of the oceans fury is an experience you wont soon forget. Just bring a jacket! That said, spending a warm summers evening with some fish and chips on the foreshore watching the sun set with some friends is a great way to enjoy life.
